Weekend Coffee Share; New Year, 2021!

Can I get you a cup of coffee or tea? as we sit and enjoy this first weekend of this new decade. In this crazy world we are living in today, I have to keep my head grounded and enjoy my family, togetherness, good food and great company. We keep the company very small, my bubble is not that big as we try and stay safe. As I sit here writing my daughter is making us dinner and the smell is amazing. As she is browning onions and bell pepper the kitchen is filled with such wonderful aroma as she teases the guys (my son and hubby) this will be a vegetarian dinner. They will love it as she is a wonderful cook. It will be a “meat” and potatoes dinner only the meat will be made with lentils, mushrooms and quinoa. She made vegan pancakes this morning without any eggs! What? and they were delicious. They were banana with mini chocolate chips, yummy! I am so happy she loves to cook, and she has so many cookbooks she has often told me she gets lost in recipes. Haha, that can happen when you have too many to choose from. As I am sitting here thinking about food, I wanted to share what we did today. Oh wait, I forgot to tell you we drove up to my daughter’s to spend the New Year weekend with her up North.

We got there early today Jan. 1st and there were not a lot of people so the shops and eatery’s were not crowded. As the day wore on, more and more people filled the streets. My family and I were happy to be on our way to avoid the crowds. I will say it really wasn’t that crowded, but definitely more people than when we arrived. While we were there we bought lunch at a take out place and my better half and I had bratwurst sausage with sauerkraut and it was one of the best brat’s I’ve ever had! (We clearly aren’t vegan, but support my daughter and I should really eat a plant based diet. Not such an easy change to make, so I try and eat healthier every day.) My son had cheddar and bacon sausage and my daughter had a huge Bavarian pretzel with cheese. 😀

I am writing my coffee share in the middle of my weekend away and so I will probably post an after weekend smile post next week as we are going to Pismo Beach tomorrow morning and we will have the best cinnamon rolls I have ever had at this famous cinnamon roll place in Pismo. AND it is just one or two streets from the Pacific Ocean! I have shared our cinnamon rolls from there in previous posts when I have visited here but my hubby has not been there yet as I often come to my daughter’s with just my son. My husband works every weekend, so I have traveled more with my son or by myself than with my husband. We asked him to take this weekend off and to be honest I have been trying to get him to retire. We will see if this will be his last year or last few months. He only works 2 days a week and has been doing this same job for the last 10 years. So he hasn’t had weekends off in that long. Only rarely when we decide to travel or make a special weekend vacation is he off of work. I digress, it will be so fun and special to eat our cinnamon rolls on the pier in Pismo and smell the ocean and watch the waves. The seagulls or pigeons will be nearby begging! Can I get you another cup of Joe? or more tea?

As I wrap up this evening so I can get this posted I will tell you that the dinner we were smelling as I started this post was absolutely delicious. Here is a photo of the finished product! My hubby is from the south and his Mom from Arkansas and as it goes all or most southerners eat black-eyed peas to bring good luck to the New Year. So for the last 36 years we have made black-eyed peas with our New Year dinner. My daughter found a really good recipe as they tasted great. Everything on the plate was super tasty!

Here’s to a Happy, Lucky, Prosperous New Year!

Weekend Coffee Share; Mini Vacation Fun!

Welcome to my weekend coffee share and I am sitting in my daughter’s apartment not far from the cafe where I took this photo of my coffee in Orcutt, CA. It is so beautiful up here on the coast with the best weather! The high’s here are in the low 80’s and at night cools to the 50’s. We went for a cool morning walk this morning as it was foggy with the marine layer which has been rolling in each evening. Such a nice relief from home which is in a heat wave this week! Crazy, we picked a good week to visit.

My daughter can’t come home and visit as they still have restrictions on traveling as she is in the military and not allowed to venture fair. Not worth detailing all that out but since we are just over three hours away, it is not hard for me to take some vacation days which I need to use anyways and we just drive up and stay with her and this visit we did some shopping for my grand kids and put together care packages which will thankfully be delivered on my grand daughters birthday! I am SO EXCITED WE were able to get that all together yesterday.

Today we ventured out and traveled up the coast to Pismo Beach. I took some photo’s I will share and a short video of the Pacific ocean and some pigeons that thought we had food for them. 😀 In Pismo Beach they have this AMAZING cinnamon roll shop which is thankfully open for take out only. It’s called Old West Cinnamon Rolls, and oh my, we bought an original, a pecan and one with cream cheese frosting and then split them up to share! ❤

After we cut up the cinnamon rolls and began to eat them my daughter says we should have taken a photo! Darn it all, I wish I took a photo but my hands were so sticky even though we had plastic knives and forks I couldn’t get my phone out and didn’t want to stop eating them to be honest. So DELICIOUS! I was able to get some photos of the beach after cleaning up!

It wasn’t too crowded thankfully as you can see not very many people on the board walk to the pier. The pier is closed but the beaches were open and you could see people kept their distances from each other which is good. There were some surfers too. There were plenty of shops and restaurants open. Masks are mandatory everywhere in CA so we always wear them on all outings. The restaurants here in California are all serving outside with all the tables with umbrella’s or easy ups to block the sun. I feel really badly for all the business’s so it seems this is working pretty well. All the fast food joints that have drive thru’s are drive thru only and the other ones like this cinnamon roll place only allow 4 customers at a time into the building and there are plenty of lines out the door waiting to buy food. These are crazy days but it seems to all be working! I always carry wet wipes and we always wash up when we get home. It was a FUN morning!

The pigeons were being fed by some people nearby and thought we had food too! Nope!

After enjoying our cinnamon rolls and walking around a bit we then headed up the coast to a small farm that had some goats and chickens, cows, typical farm animals – Avila Valley Farms. You could buy food to feed them but what we went there for was the farms store. I bought some raspberry pepper jelly, honey which is from a local beehive and some peach salsa. I wanted to get unusual items to try as they are all made locally. There was so much to choose from, fresh produce, my daughter bought a bunch of items that she needed so it was a fun stop. We bought fresh artichoke’s and are cooking them up now as my daughter and I LOVE FRESH artichokes. (The men in my family won’t touch them!) We boil them and eat the meat off every leaf and then devour the heart! YUMMY! We are having a salad with these beautiful, delicious artichokes.

Thank you for joining me on my weekend coffee share adventures! We are traveling during the week as I will be working Saturday and Sunday night shift so we travel home tomorrow. I thought since I missed last weeks coffee share I really wanted to join in this week. I am so happy to be able to visit with family and spend time with them really fills my heart and makes me so very happy! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and if you are sharing coffee I will make sure to stop by and join you.

Happy traveling Grandma and Mom,

Hawaii Vacation; Oahu Photo Fun!

Waikiki Beach, Oahu. You can see Diamond Head off in the distance on the right!

I had so many photos to share I decided to make a second post about my travels to Hawaii with my hubby and my daughter. She packed our vacation full of fun adventures which I just loved! I shared a photo similar to the one above but I was turned a bit to the left in my previous Hawaii post which is here. It is fun to use the panoramic setting on my camera, and I thought this turned out rather nice. I also wanted to share some fun photos from Pearl harbor and the museums and Memorials we saw there. We were blessed with absolutely the best weather!

Pearl Harbor, USS Arizona Memorial.
The museums had some amazing models. I didn’t exactly know what it looked like under the Memorial. This really shows what is sunk in the water entombing 1,102 Marines.
History pauses you to honor those fallen soldiers when you visit Memorial’s. I have been to many and I always pay my respects.

After visiting the USS Arizona we went over to the USS Bowfin Submarine. It was pretty busy with full ferry’s of people going over to the Arizona, but by the time we got to the submarine, no one was in it and we were able to get some good photos. A few people trickled in but it was nice to be able to view without the crowds! The sun came out finally as it was rather overcast when we visited the Arizona.

My daughter in the submarine. We were surprised at all the small bunks. I am amazed people could be in such tight quarters under the seas.
Haha, me on the submarine!
I can’t believe how polished all the brass is and how shiny and pretty everything is in this photo, including my daughter! 😀
My daughter in action! Haha! Great photo!
It really is a pretty day! I can’t thank my daughter enough for this vacation!
My hubby in action!
My two Air Force loves, Veteran hubby and Major Daughter! So very proud of them!

We went to the air museum they had there and this type of jet was at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas where my husband served. So I had to take a photo of them, such dedication, so very proud. She is now in the Space Force, isn’t that crazy? She will help develop this branch of the service being right there as this all unfolds. I find it all very fascinating and interesting! I do not know too much about it all, but she has been briefed by Generals and what she tells us is very interesting. 😀

Waikiki beach, what a beautiful place!

I hope to return to Hawaii someday even though it is an expensive adventure. If I am never able to return then this will end up being a trip of a lifetime. I wanted to share like it is since we had never been and I do not know if we will be able to return. Thanks for visiting and enjoying my Hawaii trip with me. We had a blast!!

Traveling Fun!

Spring! It’s April Already…

How can it be April? I can’t believe how fast the last 3 months have flown by and each week just comes and goes busy, busy, busy. But I am SO THANKFUL because I was able to squeeze in a vacation from work to help my family out while my daughter-in-law is on the mend in Arizona. And here it is April 2nd. I am not a big April fool’s person so I waited a day to finish this post that I had started in March.

I have to share photo’s of my cute little granddaughter, she melts my heart. I didn’t really give a whole lot of thought in what it would be like to be a grandma when I was younger, but boy, I can say that it is the most amazing, full-filling time of my life. It feels just as good as when my children were babies, as I absolutely LOVE being a mother and now a grandmother! I know I have written of this often and I love how her gregarious love and sense of humor keeps me laughing for hours. She is so precious! ❤

Having some selfie FUN!
She says, let me make a face! Such a cutie patutie! ❤ ❤ ❤

I know, everyone has a precious daughter/granddaughter or son/grandson, can I say I love yours as much as I love mine? I do, they are all so innocent and to be able to see the world through a child’s eye is truly a gift. If you just spend a few minutes or more to see what makes them giggle or watch them explore things we overlook. I have such great FUN and I had 5 incredible days with her and I am so thankful for this time and I was actually a bit depressed when I returned home as I missed her so, but realized (I’m a big girl right?) that I will return and visit again. I have to figure out my next vacation. Hmm… I’ll have to check the calendar. 😀

What does she see? So ADORABLE!
This is one of several lakes at the park in Anthem, Arizona. Alice and I are watching the ducks!

We went to the park everyday. There are two parks actually, one is a small park and the other is a really big park which is Alice’s favorite. The photos above are all from the big park in Anthem. The weather was beautiful and just perfect. What a super duper fun vacation, I could not have asked for more fun with my sweetie pie. We were together 24/7 as she slept in the queen size bed with me too, oh so spoiled, but I loved every minute!

It might sound crazy, but her and I have a special bond at least that’s how I see it as she really has this special spirit. I know she is going to grow up and be a wonderful, beautiful young lady some day. I am going to enjoy this adventure every day I can and I am having a grand time sharing with you all. I hope you enjoy as much as I, and I would love to hear what melts your heart? Is there someone special? I know my horses are close to my heart as well. OF COURSE I am going to end by sharing what I got to come home to as I missed them while vacationing! Haha, I am always missing someone, or something, so it seems…. 😉

Kisses for my girl! Selfie FUN! ❤
I can’t forget my beautiful boy! Haha, their noses are so up close! ❤

I am struggling with decisions. Should I stay or should I go, isn’t that a song? (Yes! Sung by The Clash! I had to look it up) and it is such a difficult decision and one not easily made as it will not be an easy thing to move if we decide to move to Arizona. (I had made the decision a few months back, but my work fell through and I do not have a job to go to there so that changes everything.) I have lived in California since 1963, pretty much my whole life. Roots are deep…. There is so much to say but I will save for another post. Thank you for stopping by and sharing my vacation with me as I had a blast. I hope each and every one of you have some crazy fun times!! 😀 😀 😀

Crazy in Love Grandma!
