Weekend Coffee Share; My Tiny Garden

Weekend Coffee share is a time for us to take a break out of our busy lives and enjoy some time catching up with friends (old and new). Please grab a cup of coffee or tea and share with us!

Welcome and how are you today? I am having a nice cup of morning coffee with my oatmeal and english muffin with jam. I have bananas too, would you like to join me as we finish out this weekend and this month? Yesterday was my son’s birthday, and wish I could have been in Arizona to bake him a cake! That would have been divine but it was not in the cards and with all that is going on totally understandable. I miss him very much. I also miss his wife and 2 children too, so much my heart aches but we stay in touch as much as possible. How’s your coffee? or would you rather have some tea?

Before I get into my tiny garden photos my husband and I had an interesting conversation last evening. He got a call from a very good friend of his in Arizona and they asked him to ask me if I would be interested in living on 37 acres in Williams, Arizona? He explained that they were looking for themselves when they realized this is also horse property and wondered if I wanted to have a horse ranch there! WAIT, WHAT? I told my husband YES! This is just all thoughts from our friends, but they are thinking of purchasing the land. It would be 2 1/2 hours from my family there, much closer than where I am at here and the weather there is wonderful because it is higher elevation. It is only 35 miles from Flagstaff, Arizona which is a bigger city and I could find work there. Oh my, this is only the first conversation but if it were to come to fruition, it would be a dream come true. Enough land that I would have my own trails to ride on with my horses!! I just had to share, it may not happen. Maybe talking about it will get the ball rolling in that direction. Maybe?

On to my teeny tiny garden. But this tiny garden sure brings me big smiles! I believe I will get a few tomatoes and bell peppers. So far so good!

I will be doing some gardening work this afternoon and prune my roses and spray them for aphids. I use a mixture of a couple of drops of dawn soap in a spray bottle with water. It doesn’t hurt the plants but really gets rid of those darn bugs. We have an over abundance of earwigs this year, and have seen a fair amount of lizards which are eating those bugs. The roses continue to bloom and I believe once I prune them I will get some new growth with more blooms in the coming months!

My explanation of the above photo is enough. I will say though that when I placed the plants on her patio table she told me she would probably kill them. I almost said, well at least you have a photo of them to enjoy! Hehe, these are rather hard to kill, and so hopefully she will have some success with them. If not, its all okay. She is doing really good, and I am so excited to hear where her next assignment will be. She will be moving at the end of this year.

My son sent this and he set one of the brothers in a little sit up chair they bought the baby. I thought it was adorable and he said he sat there for a few minutes! Silly Kitty!

Those brothers are just the best cats and to me very comical. I know I have shared some really wonderful photos of them, sleeping together is just so cute. When he shared this photo it made me laugh, its just too funny! He looks rather content even though he did not stay long in there, he is so mellow! I really enjoyed sharing coffee with you today. I really can’t believe it will be June tomorrow. The time sure flies, and I am looking forward to the summer but praying we don’t get too much heat. It can get pretty darn hot, but I think we will be okay until July. Have a great week!

Weekend Coffee Share; My Tiny Garden and Thinking of Family!

Weekend Coffee share is a time for us to take a break out of our busy lives and enjoy some time catching up with friends (old and new). Please grab a cup of coffee or tea and share with us!

Welcome to my coffee share, can I get you a cup of Joe? or are you in the mood for some herbal tea? or Ice tea? It’s been very hot this last week, but I must say today and this weekend the weather is very nice and so this makes me very happy when I am out riding my horses! I am going to enjoy this weekend with the warm weather before it heats up again next week. We are close enough to the ocean to where it will cool off at night and we get coastal fog that pushes inland and cools things off. Thankful for this cooling affect as it makes these Spring days beautiful! 😀

I am really happy I started my tiny garden. So far I haven’t killed anything and so far no animal or varmint has eaten anything! I am doing good, this is week one. I am getting some new growth on my veggies as they settle into their new home. And the perennials are super happy and are blooming again! They were blooming when I bought them, then got very sad when I transplanted them, then decided they liked their new home and began to bloom again!! YAY! I am SMILING from ear to ear! Thank you tiny container garden! ❤

This is my veggie container. I am seeing some new growth! I am so EXCITED!
I am SUPER HAPPY with my perennials! Look at all the pretty flowers! Makes me smile!
My roses are blooming! I need to trim them up and buy some rose food!

I enjoy my gardening and need to get out there and do some weeding. Lucky I am doing container gardening so I just need to remove weeds around the containers. Since I am watering more often it is making the ground soft so the weeds come out pretty easily. I also need to trim my rose bushes. Some are blooming nicely and I know it will help the plant if I trim some of the older blooms. Maybe I will do this tomorrow as the weather should be nice and not too hot. High tomorrow 82 F (28 C) which is so much cooler than this next week it will be 102 F (39 C) YIKES!

On to my family – I MISS MY FAMILY! There, I said it and it is the truth! I know I will be able to see them hopefully sooner than later but I am thinking about them every day. I am actually messaging my daughter while I am writing this post. I just toggle back and forth from WordPress to Facebook messenger and I am finding it really FUN! I miss her so much! AND I miss my grand babies! ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

Oh My, Teddy is growing! I have not met him in person yet! Darn it all!! SOON I hope!
This is my home screen on my phone! ADORABLE! My sweet grand children!!

I’ll say it for you, AWW, I love them so very much and I cannot wait til the day where I am heading to their house in Arizona! I think its time for another video chat with them so I will contact my son and see how they are doing and if we can chat this weekend. Baby Teddy had his 2 months shots this last Wednesday and he was upset and grumpy that first day but was much better the next day so he should be feeling good this weekend. I’m excited. I really am so thankful for all of our technology.

I hope you enjoyed my coffee share today. I so enjoy sharing with you all and I hope this coffee share finds you well and doing good. I have to thank Eclectic Alli for hosting our meeting place for our coffee shares. I am not very good at creating a link, it should be here and if it works there will be other coffee shares to read. I well end with my other pretty rose photo!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Gardening Grandma,

Teeny Tiny Garden Update!

20180807_180911.jpg

This summer is just crazy, and I know many will agree! It’s crazy hot and crazy wildfires, and I pray the fires will all go out soon even though I know the fight will be long and hard for those putting their life on the line. But I am so thankful we are not near any fires, no, we are inland enough to get a healthy dose of hot weather pretty much every day. My poor garden is really suffering and I feel badly only because I did not prepare better, but it is all a learning curve and boy have I learned a lot this summer! I have to thank fellow gardeners that have given me some great advice, and most of that advice I’ll have to try the next time around as my garden that once was mighty, even though it is small has wilted down and is just about ready to be dead. I never thought I would write about death, but my cucumbers have succumbed and my pumpkins are right behind. I think I will have one pumpkin, maybe, it’s not the size most normal pumpkins are and it is still early for a pumpkin but the plant itself I don’t think will make it more than a couple of weeks if I’m lucky. I’m SUPER HAPPY about my tomatoes! That is what I decided to put as my first photo, they are very happy tomatoes in a container and I hope they stay that way. I didn’t want to put photos of my sad pumpkin/cucumber patch, okay, here are a couple of photos. It’s just about done like I said, next time I will prepare the ground better and definitely I will lay down mulch to help with keeping things moist when I water! I can only post these tiny photos as its hard to look at, I’m rather embarrassed, sort of, well, it is what it is at this point!  😦  I know, I’m being dramatic…

As my teeny tiny garden is shrinking (minus cucumbers and soon pumpkins) I am planning on starting a new one in 2 containers that I have waiting to be planted for fall. Since I had to battle Mr. Gopher I am going to just concentrate on the containers. I will check my planting zone as I’m sure this will help my success in my gardening. I’ve known about these zones, I just haven’t taken the time to look and see what grows best where I live. Since my garden is tiny, I plan on keeping it that way until I get the hang of this gardening thing. I sure love watching my garden grow and so I will do my best with my fall crop. Haha, I have to laugh because it isn’t much of a crop but it is still a garden and really fun!   😀

P.S. I only got about 7 cucumbers that I am eating instead of pickling. They are delicious, sweet, succulent and only one that was bitter so I threw it away. Maybe I will try to grow more cucumbers. Next time.  🙂

Only one of my tiny herb garden is beaming and that’s my basil. It sure is shiny and green. The box for my herbs is really small which is fine since I need to learn to cook with fresh herbs! I have occasionally bought fresh herbs from the grocery store but I’ll be completely honest, I have NEVER grown my own herbs. Oh dear, I need to learn to eat healthier and cook and eat fresh and home-grown foods! I’m slowly getting there, better late than never I always say….

As sad as I am about losing some of my garden, my eyes and nose can’t believe my honeysuckle!! It smells AMAZING! And it is blooming like CRAZY! It’s just loving life and so it puts a huge giant smile on my face! I have to say that I love sharing my garden even though it is so very small. My little tea rose is loving life too like I’ve mentioned before. My other bigger roses are dormant as I think they bloom later in the fall or usually late winter into spring actually. So I’m not surprised they are not blooming right now. Here is another tea rose bloom. It is so pretty, I do love these plants.  ❤

I hope you have enjoyed my gardening plights and joys. It is work, but it is rewarding except the part about the plants that don’t want to live any more. That part is sad, but everything else is really fun and enjoyable! If you have any gardening tips I’d love to hear from you!

Pumpkins and Cucumbers!

20180629_065118.jpg

My garden is growing and I am so excited! I didn’t do very much to prepare for my tiny garden and it is surprising me and to think if I had prepared better or a bigger plot the bounty I could grow, I am thinking more about expanding my garden going into fall. It is more inspiring and I am enjoying gardening more than I imagined! I’ve always enjoyed gardening but have thought I can’t fit it into my busy schedule but amazingly it hasn’t been that difficult to squeeze in the time to garden. I’m getting behind on weeding but we are currently in a heat wave and so weeding my garden will have to wait. It’s all I can do is to be outside long enough to water, and I’m having to water at least twice a day and may water three times a day if needed.  I have to share a few more photos and I definitely have a white pumpkin growing, I planted seeds of both white and orange pumpkins.  🙂

20180704_072054.jpg

I also have cucumbers growing and I hope the pumpkins don’t over power the cucumbers but they are holding their own.  I’ve seen some very tiny cucumbers and will see how well they grow. This heat which I’ve mentioned already is horrible, but its a little cooler today and we now have cloud cover and we are experiencing some thunder and lightning. Very monsoonal weather, and even though its 106 degrees right now the plants don’t look withered like they did yesterday. I may water a little later one more time as this heat will stay for a few more days. Crazy summer heat! YIKES!

My tomatoes are coming along and getting taller and the heat isn’t bothering them as much which I’m thankful for and the plant on the right of this photo is blueberry. I wanted to move the blueberry to another container but I think I’ll leave it for now and decide later.  These photos are from the last week, and every day I go out to water the vines on the pumpkins and cucumbers get longer and longer. I’m having to guide them a bit but it is so cool to see them grow.  I get so excited over the little things in life and watching something grow from seed is amazing. Here is a photo of the seed sprouts!

Isn’t that just so cool when you compare and see how huge the plants have gotten! Some of the pumpkin leaves are GIANT! Haha, so darn fun. I’m really hoping for some nice looking pumpkins! and some tasty cucumbers!! If you don’t garden, try a container garden and if you are lucky and have lots of room and have a great big garden I envy you as gardening and its yields are very rewarding. Thank you for visiting and reading my blog. I so enjoy sharing and hope you are enjoying my tiny garden too!  ❤
