We need a break. Why can’t it rain a lot on one day and then we get a break for a few days? This year and last year it has rained weeks on end or a week at a time which just saturates everything to the point where flooding is inevitable. I want to smile at the rain, the only thing I like about the rain is the sound. I do love hearing it rain, and I love what happens after it rains. The air smells so fresh, and the flowers start to bloom. But it severely interrupts my daily activities, which is walking and riding and caring for my horses! Darn rain, I need to go buy shavings for my horses stall as it is getting very wet this week. 😀 (Trying to smile in the rain!)
I’m wanting to write about smiling and all I can think about is how stressed I’ve been lately. My work has been very stressful, mostly because of all the changes taking place with the shutdowns it is causing my work to cut hours to employees. It is sad, but at least we are still working and hopefully this all won’t last too long. So last week was difficult but as I see it now, this week is much better. I feel calmer and less stressed so that is something to smile about! I have been continuing to share flowers, not daily but often. I am going to share the last 2 photos I took of some really pretty flowers at a stable I visited this last week. I hope it makes you smile! 😀
I feel like all I want to talk about is rain. It is to rain the rest of the week. I’m looking at 5 days of rain including today, which is almost over so that leaves me with 4 more days of rain. Haha, I have to be the crazy person writing about rain and I write about it often! Maybe my smile should be about how mother nature messes with me and I have to learn to smile! 😀 😀 😀
As I sit here wanting to share and be uplifting I decided that I am going to share what makes me smile because I can’t help myself. YES, Zack and Chloe this last weekend looking at me in their most goofy ways and of course I just keep taking more photos. I can’t imagine how many photos I have of these two ponies. I take so many photos which is so much FUN!
I think as I am writing I am feeling better and better! YAY! I am so glad I am writing and sharing this week. Thank you for visiting my smile post and I hope you all aren’t going stir crazy. What makes you smile this week?
I can’t believe it is Friday, March 13th. Next week my daughter and I are traveling to Arizona to meet baby Teddy, my new grandson and I can hardly wait. I will be seeing my beautiful granddaughter as well, I miss her so much! And as I sit and write this I have to admit I am thinking that the world has gone a bit crazy. I understand the need for precaution and it’s just a WOW! All the things that are shut down because of the corona virus. I totally get it and understand and will just touch upon it here. Wash hands, keep up good hygiene and stay strong. Praying for all who are affected, and praying for a small spread with all that everyone is doing. One last thing I will mention is I am glad my family and friends are the ones scratching their heads to all the toilet paper buys. I don’t mean to offend…. Just why?
I won’t get into the psyche of the human phenomenon of needing to stay in control, hence the buying frenzies! I hope this all subsides soon. Can I get you another cup of coffee or tea? Lucky we can sit separated in our own home, right? No fears in our nice talk here! I shouldn’t joke, but boy the memes I’ve seen on social media are crazy! I probably could write this post and write the word crazy about 50 times because I have never seen anything like this in all my life! It’s CRAZY! I digress, as I am going off the deep end here. How are you? Need a refill? Some cookies maybe to go with your tea? 😀
I know I post a lot about our weather which usually consists of rain. Lots and lots of rain. It is funny that it seems like when we finally get the rain it seems to come all at once. It will rain for days at a time and we just get saturated. We need the rain, I just wish we had a few days of reprieve in between storms! I will say though that the stables I board at handles all the water pretty well. Yes, we get muddy, but it isn’t too bad and we dry out pretty fast once the rain stops. More importantly, the arena is usable so we can exercise them and the trails are usable too! So in between the showers I was able to go on a short ride with my girlfriend today. That put a huge smile on my face! We were rained on, but only a drizzle. It was really fun actually to be outside and in some weather with our ponies! We did not have a care in the world, right? right!! 😀 😀 😀
As I was walking to my car parked across the street from the stables I noticed the hills and the low clouds. I can’t remember seeing the clouds so low, and it was rather eerie out. With the drizzle and low clouds it felt like I was somewhere else, like I was visiting my sister in Oregon. It’s very rainy where she lives, much like today. I checked the weather report and even though it changes daily, we are looking at another week of rain. So much rain….. It will turn everything green, flowers and my roses will love it and hopefully get big blooms! I need to plant a little garden soon. I keep thinking about it but I don’t do anything about it. I need to get off my lazy butt!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. We all need to stay connected, supportive of each other and pray for quick recovery from what ever it is we are facing. I enjoy sharing and I know this is kind of a crazy weekend share, but I really wanted to write and maybe I should have written this and seen how many times I can write the word Crazy! I think that is the word of the week!
Rain, lots and lots of rain! It is pouring outside right now and I am enjoying the sound of the rain as it comes down on the roof. BUT rain and my outdoor activities do not mix that well. My horses don’t mind but I mind the muddy mess that happens when it rains non-stop. We need rain. Here in California they have been saying we are now in a drought. We were out of drought after last years deluge of massive amounts of rain. But it doesn’t last long when you have a dry winter. I guess winter is coming late! I can’t complain too much, I have a love/hate relationship with rain. What do you do when it rains? or when you have inclement weather? I catch up with things around the house which includes my crochet projects. Oh yes, my smile this week is for the rain! After all, who wants to be in drought status?
The other reason I’m smiling for the rain is even though I have a personal love/hate relationship which directly involves my horses, outside of the horses I just absolutely LOVE the rain and all that it brings. It will bring beautiful spring flowers, maybe we will see some California poppies bloom again this year. Last year was a record bloom all over our hills. It was absolutely beautiful and we do not see these huge blooms every year. I know we really need the rain, so I wonder if the weather report will hold true? We will see! 😀
I also wanted to share on this smile my projects that I have been working on since I am spending more time indoors because of the weather. So I have two things to smile about this week, why not! It is fun to share what I am working on and a few things I have completed.
My nephew and wife are due a baby boy in May so I have time to make another Sweet Dreams blanket. I thought I would use a slightly different blue so it would be unique and be a little different for me when working on it. This pattern is really fun to make and goes together really quickly. I’m thinking of making more with different colors, like pink and lavender. I was thinking I could sell them at our local craft fair that we have in town. I have already sold these Star Wars characters there, so I will have to make more of them as well. They stitch up quickly too, especially once I have made them and I have made many of some characters. I’ve lost track of all the Yoda’s I have made. Haha, he is popular!
Thanks for visiting my smile this week. What makes you smile? Anything happening in your world this week. I really enjoy sharing and I am going to get busy with my crochet and will be visiting my horses even in the rain and make sure they have a dry spot under their shelters. I will buy some shavings which help soak up any wet areas and helps keep a dry area for them. They don’t care, but I care and us crazy horse people have to do what we can. I hope you all have a great week!
Happy Valentines Day! and yes, I am happily married and my husband knows that my horses are my LOVE. You have to be horse crazy, and even a bit obsessed to even come close to understanding that these beautiful animals are just my Valentine. How are you spending your Valentines day? My hubby and I are not big on celebrating this loving day, he let’s me indulge in my LOVES as you can see by my photos. To say I am obsessed is definitely an understatement. I hope you can enjoy my obsession with me as I share more photos!
I love them so much that I am always trying to find excuses to take their photo’s and so this is as good of an excuse as any, Happy Valentines day! Oh yes, I already said this, so give your honey a big giant kiss, either on the lips or on their nose! 😀 ❤
I tried and took some action shots, not always easy but the more I look at the photo above the more I like it. I took more but liked this one with Chloe and her friend Gracie in the arena. It was a gloomy day as another storm is here and we made it out on trail before it started to rain in the afternoon. I like the colors in the photos when the sun is not out as you can see the cloudy sky as I try and enjoy all the weather we are having. We will eventually get a lot of sun so I can’t complain about this cool winter day!
I can’t believe there is yet more storms coming with it raining all day tomorrow. I am thankful that it is drying out really fast in between storms and so I have stopped complaining about the rain and am loving the weather. Weather, I can’t believe that we are actually having “weather” in sunny Southern California where it seems the sun is always shining. It really is an anomaly, with very little rain each year it is like a 10 or 15 year thing where we get hit hard with rain like it has never rained before. I know we will survive. Haha, as the people in the north and northeast struggle with a horrible winter this year. I have NOTHING to complain about, how is it where you live? All I have to worry about is rain. I’ll stop complaining I promise!
I’ll close by saying that horse people, at least a lot of horse people I know LOVE horses rear ends. We like to see those beautiful tails, as I see Zack’s needs some whitening but we also like the big muscles of those large rear ends. I LOVE seeing how well developed they are, I don’t know, something about them that makes me want to hug them as I groom and brush out their beautiful long tails and pat them on the rear. ❤
I remember when I was young, I could run up on my horse Mirage and catapult myself up and over his butt like I jumped on a trampoline and hopped right up over his rear end and on his back! YUP, I did it, I am not making this up, I was so agile and could leap up high enough!! What memories of days gone by and I could not even begin to do that today! NO WAY! I am to old and lost my spring. I could not even swing up from the side which I could do easily back in the day……
I hope you have a WONDERFUL VALENTINE’S DAY! Loving me some ponies!
I am enjoying a wonderful cup of coffee with some cookies. I haven’t bought Girl scout cookies in some years and someone at work asked if I would buy some from her niece so I obliged. I forgot how good they are, and with a warm cup of coffee, blissful. Will you join me for a cup of coffee? I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. I am currently listening and watching it rain and rain and rain. It is one of the wettest winters this year, and for a outdoors person, or more to the point a horse owner, the rain can be difficult to enjoy. I am able to keep my horses dry, the rain keeps us on our toes! As I sit and enjoy the sound of the rain, I also crochet and I thought I’d share what I am working on. It doesn’t look like much yet so I’ll have to post a photo when I am done. 😀
I love to crochet, I also cross-stitch which I haven’t done in a few years. I may have to get back into that but for now I am having fun making crochet projects. This will be a warm beanie or hat. I am almost done crocheting the edge that will fold up around your head for a double thickness. So the next step is to crochet the cap. I love this deep red wine color. As I sit here working on this project, I can see I didn’t complete my last one. It’s a Star Wars figure, almost completed. They are so cute, I have made so many and want to make all the figures in the crochet book I have. I seem to get side tracked, sometimes having multiple projects going at one time. Here is a photo of many I’ve made so far.
Since I am stuck indoors, other than housework (who does housework? I do get help from hubby in this area. I will admit, he spoils me when it comes to housework!) I am either writing this blog, or crocheting my crafts while watching my multitude of cooking shows! So relaxing and helps with stress. We all should do things that helps with the stress in our daily lives, especially for those of us who work full-time. That would be me, and my job as a supervisor has enough stress that I need all the help I can get to de-stress or unwind! Are you enjoying your coffee, or tea? I hope you are having a great weekend. It isn’t all bad staying inside! I wanted to share the outdoors from this morning as I did go to check on the ponies and took some photos to share. ❤
I take so many photos, they just bring me so much joy. I call to them and they always come over to see if I have treats. So as they beg, of course I went and got them some horse cookies. How can you not with these cute faces. It drizzled off and on as they walked around and eventually scratched each others back. I turn them out every day and ride them often. As I am looking at my weather app it says rain every day until Tuesday. That means 3 more days of rain. I remembered driving home from the stables that I have an Aussie waterproof (oiled) rain coat hanging in my garage that has been there for some years. My hubby bought it for me at a yard sale here in town and I tried it on when I got home and it fits great! So I will ride tomorrow in the rain with my Aussie raincoat! Hopefully it will only be drizzling, right now as I look out my window it is pouring, oh dear, so much rain. We need it but I wish it would space itself out not rain every single day, all day long.
SO I finally have rain gear. It’s only a coat but it will keep me dry in all of this rain. I can’t believe how hard it is raining and it hasn’t stopped in hours!! I have some heavy leather protection I bought for my Ariat boots that I wear to the barn. I added another layer this morning to keep them moist and dry. The oil I apply helps repel water. Developed by a firefighter, it has kept my Ariat’s in good condition and with all this rain they are surviving which makes me happy. I am trying to enjoy the weather but as you can see it is a challenge with the horses. I am hoping you are having a great weekend, and are enjoying your coffee with me. I am enjoying your company and I sure do enjoy sharing my crafts, my horses and my weekend with you. ❤ I must say it is getting very green here in Southern California. It will be a beautiful spring, and the mountains abound with green grass, and we will get wild yellow mustard grass which will be beautiful to see in a few weeks. When these storms blow through the local mountains will be snow capped, a beautiful sight to see. I should be grateful for the weather, I think I will get another cup of coffee, how about you?
She’s a little fuzzy on this winter day, as I get her ready for our trail ride. It’s a beautiful Saturday after some wintry rainy days and the weather is perfect. She doesn’t get a very long winter coat which I am thankful for, as she stays clean and is easier to groom. Unlike her stable mate, Zack, who is as hairy as a bear! I am looking forward to my trail ride with my best friend Sally. We have known each other since we were 8 years old or maybe we were younger, it’s been just over 50 years as I give away our age. We are both 58 years old and loving life like there is no tomorrow, as it should be!
As we ride, we talk and talk. Why do women talk so much? Why do we need to talk so much? It truly is a need. I do not talk to my husband as much as I talk with my women friends. Well, I LOVE my husband talks I think he is a good listener if I do not ramble or get off on a tangent; if I do, I will lose his attention! BUT mostly he is a good listener. In turn, I try and be a good listener back and sometimes I get disinterested in the topics he talks about. Shhh please don’t tell him as I try and look interested, and most of the time I can pay attention to his conversations. And most of the time we have wonderful conversations, they are just different than my girlfriend’s conversations. I know all the girls out there will know what I mean, the men should understand, I hope. (Girls, that’s what we are right? I’ll always feel like that young girl galloping on my horse!) ❤
We have so much FUN riding on the trails. We are so lucky that our ponies are seasoned trail horses and even though there may be a tiny spook here or there, to be expected in town – they are really good just walking along as we chat away about life. We may talk about our dreams, like how I need to extend out my plans to move to Arizona. We need to take things a bit slower and make sure everything is in place before we can make this huge move. We both are grandma’s now and that’s such a fun subject to talk about as we share our photos and our grandchildren. Oh, how I miss my granddaughter. She is close to my heart always, and I think about her every day. LOVE YOU MISS ALICE!
The photo above I took on the next evening as my other horse Zack was not feeling good and after watching him for a few hours in the afternoon, with him laying down which is unusual and no movement of manure from him I decided to call my vet. He was dehydrated which is common in this weather and so he was oiled and given meds to get over this bought of colic. He is all better and recovered nicely. I do not know why they have to get sick on a Sunday, so it’s an emergency call, costs more and it kind of screwed up my sleep but it’s all good. And I am happy he recovered quickly.
I was going to write and get this finished just over a week ago when life got super busy. Its been hard decisions and just a crazy time for me. I ended up taking a few more photos of my horses that I really wanted to share, so I’ll share on this post. It’s life right? When I think one week will be like the next, then a wrench gets thrown into it and things get turned upside down and sideways. Things have settled down for me and I have some time to finish this post! I will say one thing that throws things off for us horse owners is the weather and it is raining as I write with more rain storms coming this weekend. I know there are many out there dealing with this Polar Vortex I am listening to on the news and I pray everyone stays safe and warm. I can’t imagine how that cold feels, Brrrr……. Here’s the last of my photos, as they look at me in the arena they seem to just pose for the shots! LOVE these ponies!
My goodness, we haven’t seen this much rain in over a year. I think it was two years ago we had a really wet winter but what is bad about all the rain we are getting here in Southern California is the amount all at once. We are completely saturated and the ground just can’t take any more water. We are fighting with mother nature as we want to have our ponies have a dry spot to eat and sleep. We buy loads of shavings to help dry the stall but we are slowly losing this battle. 😦
As sad as I feel, the rain feels good. It feels cleansing and the air fresh and crisp. I know I should not complain because I know that all this deluge of rain can cause mud slides in mud slide prone areas that are prone to slides because of the bad fires that happened last year. So as much as I would like to complain, I know the sun will shine and things will eventually dry out. For now it’s slogging through the mud to try and get to our stalls and I’m thankful that my horses do not go nuts and can be turned out into our saturated arena. No riding until we see some sun. We have had rain for 5 days straight, something rather unusual for our sunny not so rainy area!
My girlfriend Nancy and I were at the stables today trying to help our horses with a tiny bit of exercise and to put a little bit more shavings under the shelters so they have a dry place to stand and eat and sleep if they so choose. My horses lay down in the wet shavings, can’t control that but it will all dry out hopefully by next week. We will buy more shavings to help the stalls dry out faster!!
I wanted to write about the aggravation of too much WATER! I love the rain, I really do, but I wish mother nature would rain in a more rationed way. Haha, like we can ask anything from mother nature. I guess that is where the old saying comes from “when it rains, it pours!” Because it has been raining, and pouring, then raining some more. It is definitely what we call here where I live a VERY WET WINTER! I know the snow lovers will love all the snow our local mountains are now getting. I lived in the local mountains for one year, that was enough for me. I did not have horses then, I do not miss the snow. I am not a winter snow person, that I know for sure.
How is your winter evolving? I have been getting really wet and funny thing I do not have the correct attire to be out in the rain. I do not own rubber boots, something I wish I had today. I do not have a water proof jacket, something that would be very helpful this week. And I do not have a water proof hat, but my hat kept the rain from getting my glasses all wet. I guess I may need to purchase some rain gear, even though this may be all over with soon and I may not see this much rain again in what, 2 years? We will see.
