3 Day Quote Challenge – Day 3

“If you climb in the SADDLE be ready for the RIDE”  –  Blackmtnranch.com

                                                MY PASSION – HORSES

I was born ready to ride. I will never run out of things to say about riding horses, my love for them, how they make me feel, how free I feel when sitting in that saddle.  I have ridden in a few different saddles in my years. I started riding English – Hunter/Jumpers and was in training with some mighty fine trainers that taught me so much about equitation, hunters and training them in general. I worked as a groom for several horse trainers back in the day, my how fun it was and hard work too…. I have a photo I will share of my show days, astride my show horse Norwegian Wood, stable name Chester. We had such a blast, sometimes winning blue ribbons, sometimes not, but it was all good times!

“Dressage is the basis. If there’s something off here, there will be something off with the jumping.”  –  George Morris

Brings back so many fond memories, I truly miss those days. I try to ride English in the arena on my Warmblood, Zack. He is a fun ride in the English saddle and it gives my core a workout as I post around at a nice trot. He needs this exercise too, so it’s good for both of us. But unless I buy a new horse to get back into showing, my showing days are mostly over. Things could change but I am happy riding Western on trail and huntseat for the arena, I am lucky I can do both! This girl Chloe, who I just happened to snap this photo as she stuck her tongue out (probably licking her lips after a horse treat) is the perfect trail horse! With her injured back leg she is perfectly happy walking all over the trails in my town and she truly loves going out, and it helps keep her in shape and so its a win-win for us both!  ❤

“Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway”  –  John Wayne

I use to say I’ve never been scared, funny how you grow up and things change. I really am not scared to death but have a healthy fear and I pick and choose what horse I would ride. Back in my younger years, my fears did not really exist. To be young again! But I’m older and wiser and I feel like there may be some horses that are just not meant to be ridden, or not meant to do a certain genre or be trained to do something it’s not capable of doing… etc… I could go on and on about horses, their personalities and what some people do or don’t do with them. I’m fortunate enough to have enough experience to be able to use and take care of my horses to where I believe they are healthy and HAPPY!

I’ll conclude with a couple more quotes, oh there are so many good ones it’s hard to choose!

“Every second, you’re either schooling or unschooling your horse. There is no in-between.”  –  George Morris

“I didn’t have talent, but I had great ambition. I still have ambition.”   –  George Morris

3 Day Quote Challenge – Day 2

Today is day 2 of my quote challenge.  I have been thinking about what else that I am passionate about and other than my horses and my family, I’m very passionate about music. I actually love many genre’s of music, from classical to pop rock, country western to Celtic music. I consider movie Soundtracks among my top favorites. I grew up learning how to play the piano and am an accomplished pianist playing mostly classical music, Mozart, Debussy and Beethoven to name a few composer’s. One of my favorites is Rachmaninoff, definitely a challenging composer and his music is beautiful.  ❤

I decided to write about music because I believe music can evoke many emotions. Music can make you feel incredibly happy, or sad. It can bring back memories or make new memories depending on the situation you are in while listening. It is amazing how music can affect our brains and our bodies. Since music is such a big part of our lives I’ll touch upon a few interesting effects music has and ways we react to it without even realizing it.

“Without music, life would be a mistake”  – Friedrich Nietzche

It’s interesting how music affects our emotions even short pieces of happy and sad music can affect us. there are two kinds of emotions related to music: perceived emotions and felt emotions. This means that you can understand the emotions of a music piece without actually feeling them.  This explains why some of us find listening to sad music rather enjoyable, rather than depressing.

Music in moderate noise levels is a sweet spot for our creativity. Ambient noise apparently gets our creative juices flowing, and doesn’t put us off the way high levels of noise or music does. The way this works is moderate noise levels increase processing difficulty which promotes abstract processing leading to higher creativity. This means when we struggle just enough to process things as we normally would, we resort to more creative approaches while listening to the music. High noise levels can impair creativity because we are overwhelmed and struggle to process information efficiently.

It just goes to show you how much music can affect our daily lives. How many of us put on some really good tunes to get the motor in motion to vacuum or clean the kitchen floor! A good tune or two can put you in the groove, sense who likes to do housework? But it has to get done!

I find that my most favorite artists are the ones that have piano in their repertoire, I’m partial to the piano but certainly can appreciate an excellent string quartet!

Astonish

via Daily Prompt: Astonish

I am writing about Astonish, a daily prompt here on WordPress. I find these word prompts interesting and it makes you think outside the box and stimulates your creative juices.  As I think about being astonished so many things come to mind. I am astonished at all the people who live in southern California which in turn makes me very astonished at all the traffic. I shouldn’t be astonished since it is really become the norm, and I’m thankful for my crazy work hours because I travel the opposite direction of all the crazy traffic.

I found a list of synonyms for the word astonish, which in turn makes you think of what makes you dumbfounded? or bewildered? I know there are many days I feel overwhelmed, another synonym. When I feel overwhelmed it is mostly from my job – since I’m a supervisor there are days that it just gets overwhelming needing to take care of all things on my plate. Sometimes I feel dumbfounded with things I see in the news, how can you not right? Astounded, blown away, stupefy, dazed? a few more synonyms and boy, you can make a long laundry list of things that amaze you, maybe something you read stuns you but really what exactly blows you away? makes you wonder right?

I didn’t think I would write a whole paragraph full of question marks, but I just did! I can think of things at my stables or in my town full of horses that can sometimes be astonishing. I don’t want to be specific, and there is not just one way to ride a horse, or take care of a horse or even train a horse, but some things are just astonishing. I am thankful that I have my horses at a super nice boarding facilities with like-minded folks that love and take care of their horses like I would and do. I’m very thankful for that!

I think that I would be astonished if I got 100 likes for this post. Wouldn’t that be amazing? I know that it would be really cool.  Even though I may not be writing a very intriguing blog, because you have to admit what is in this story or blog? just words explaining how I would be amazed or astonished about this that or the other thing, but it makes you think, what exactly is the thing we all really want? recognition? likeability? to be enjoyed, to get a smile a laugh, a giggle? I’m giggling at myself. I need to get some sleep so I’ll apologize now for this silly post. As I think this all may be a bit meaningless but I wrote it and I’m going to publish it and it is what it is, right? I know I’m right! 😀

I’m amazed at the full palm trees! They have since all been trimmed. I like them full but they will grow full again. ❤
