Welcome to my yard from Spring as I reminisce. I am missing my roses, they are not blooming right now and so I thought I would feature these beauties. It is amazing how this rose starts out a darker yellow and pink and then fades as it ages and opens up as you see these two roses blooming next to each other. They are heavenly! Can I get you coffee or tea? Iced is my preference on these warm summer days. As we sit outside enjoying this beautiful summer day and chat, I will tell you how I am looking for tomato recipes as I am getting a lot of tomatoes! Lol 😀

  • Home grown tomatoes! YUMMY!

I am loving all these tomatoes and my neighbor is growing them as well and has given us eight more that are in my fridge. The lighter ones you see in the photo I just picked today. I read that it is good to pick them as they start to turn and then you can let them ripen on your counter. They are absolutely scrumptious!! I have been eating them on salads and in my sandwiches but I want to use them in some recipes. I know I can make salsa and spaghetti sauce. I looked up baked tomatoes and the recipe I found looks delicious! I’ll let you know how it turns out if I bake them. (Basically, they are stuffed and baked with breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese, garlic, you know…. all the good stuff!) I am also thinking of making homemade ketchup. I LOVE ketchup! Do you have any good recipes when you have a lot of tomatoes?

My teeny tiny garden – container gardening is working out very well. I have mulched it and I think its helping tons. The plants look very healthy and I know it might look crowded but the bell peppers don’t take up much room. I have two bell pepper plants and one tomato plant. I knew I would have a ton of tomatoes with just one plant, and I didn’t know if the bell peppers would grow well, so I guess that’s why I got two of the bell peppers. You never know what will live, and I haven’t killed a tomato plant to date! I wanted to share a couple more photos of some plants that are looking great. Can I get you a refill? I better get more iced coffee, cafe mocha is my go too..

These really are house plants but the weather is mild enough here where I live that they thrive really well completely in the shade outside on my front porch. I have two of the variegated philodendrons on my porch along with an ivy and of course the arrowhead.

I have a story about the Arrowhead. My hubby came home from work one day after our second son was born and walked into the house and I will never forget I was washing dishes and he walked up to me and asked me how I was and I just burst into tears!! I could not stop crying, and he was very consoling but the hormones raged and the postpartum blues had hit me hard. Usually about two weeks after birth I just can’t control my emotions. The next day he came home with a beautiful plant arrangement. It had a small palm and this arrowhead philodendron, and it meant so much to me that he bought these to help soothe my hormone depression. This arrowhead that is thriving on my front porch is 31 years old this year! AMAZING! I think all my potted plants on my porch are well over 20 years old and going strong. ❤ ❤ ❤

Oh dear, I hope I am not boring you with all the plants. The plants are looking so great it just makes me smile and so in turn makes me want to share them. Since we are outside, how about we head to the stables and we can turn out the horses! GREAT IDEA! 😀

  1. Awe, I love the story about your hubby getting you a plant just when you needed cheering up the most. I’ve always liked potted plants, and trees so much more than a vase with beautiful flowers, that of course can be very beautiful and a sign of great love, but they won’t last to be cherished like your plants. Reading you post made me smile. Your garden is doing wonderful! Everything is a little slower here, but I am very happy how things are turning out in my garden anyways. Thank you so much my dear friend! ❤️ I agree, I’ve gotten plenty of beautiful flowers (I enjoy, but am a little sad when they wilt) as they don’t last and to still have these plants flourish and have so much meaning is remarkable to me. The palm that came with the Arrowhead I planted in a planter at my last home. I left it there since I had the Arrowhead that I could take with me wherever I go! I’m glad your garden is doing good even if it’s slower there. I’m so happy you enjoyed my post. I’ve been wanting to share my tiny garden! Have a super weekend too!! 🥰

  4. I doubt anyone is bored by your “plants” Diana.
    Quite the contrary, I’m thinking, given how much I love tomatoes, I really should add a bunch to next year’s garden. If I can do this good with spaghetti squash, I should be able to grow some decent tomatoes. BTW: I thought you weren’t suppose to refrigerate them. Am I mistaken?

    1. Hi Gary!
      You should add tomatoes to your garden as they are quite easy to grow. They help boost my confidence when I have tougher plants that are more finicky and need more attention. Tomatoes are fine on the counter if you are planning on using them within a few days (or letting them ripen) but if you want to keep them for longer it is okay to refrigerate them.   7. Your post made me smile in so many ways. I love the potential of a rose bud and watching. We have a climbing rose out back and the buds start of an amazing dark red, changing to a beautiful pink as it unfolds. Thanks for the share.

  10. I will have the not with ice option as the thought of ice gives me the shivers, its still the cold and dry season this side of the universe and I will take all the warmth I can get…
    The garden looks great and wow 30 yearold flowers have me like woooow its always great to be able to tell the story behind something, makes it so much easier to appreciate …
    And of course the horses… <i< am just noticing now or you changed your site tag to read my life and horse stories

  11. Of course you can have the nice hot coffee to warm you up!! And thank you for the kind words, it does amaze me how those plants thrive EVERY year. (So I’m thinking WOW too!) In the winter I should move them inside as they don’t do as well on the cold nights. But it’s not cold enough to kill them, they just get a little chilled. Lol 😊

    My site tag has always been “My Life and Horse Stories” I haven’t changed anything. (I can’t help myself to almost always share my horses, and my original idea for my blog was featuring only horses but clearly I write about a lot of different subjects which I feel the my life part covers, haha, not sure if I’m even making any sense!) I’ve thought about changing it, or changing my author name as I’m using my first initial and my maiden last name. But after some thought I decided to just stick with what I have created and just keep it like it is as I think it works for me! Thanks for visiting and having coffee with me!! 😃❤️

  12. ooohhh i love the teeny tiny capsicum, do you talk to them when their that little, I look like an absolute nutter walking around our garden sometimes. Talk to everything lol. I could almost smell the freshness of your tomatoes from the picture. Love the mowing machine pics. Its funny to watch them have a play when ours do that i think oh what fun but please dont do that when we go for a ride. lol Have a great rest of the week.

    1. I have to say I don’t talk much to my outdoor plants/veggies! 😄 It’s a good idea though, I believe plants react to your voice, to music and such when you have them indoors. Lol 😍
      You always have such wonderful comments! And yes, them ponies do have their FUN first or by themselves and not when we ride. Thankful they behave themselves when riding! Have a wonderful week too!

    This was nice to read, thank you. My family usually grow vegetables but I thought I’d give it a go myself this year! I’ve got some cherry tomato plants and some pepper plants, no sign of anything edible yet but they’re growing well :). Have a good rest of your week.
