My Ponies, Up Close Fun Photos!

That grey nose, it is as soft as it looks! I actually photographed a fly right in the center of his head! Lol

I had a fun day at the barn today after a very rainy day yesterday. It was fun to watch them walk around the mini lake in the arena. My horses just love water and they often stand in the rain even though they have a nice shelter.  One of my stable friends asked me what my favorite color horse is and I really do not have a favorite.  I use to love black horses because I grew up reading The Black Stallion series by Walter Farley, such wonderful books and I actually owned a black thoroughbred. My first horse was a registered thoroughbred and was registered jet black!  He was my only black horse, but I LOVE all colors and am learning to appreciate grey horses. They are hard to take care of as you see all the dirt, but my friend said to me one reason she loves grey horses so much is because their beautiful eyes stand out against the white back-round of their face. I never thought of grey horses like that before and wondered what attracts so many people to grey horses?  I think this is one reason why and so I thought about it and she is correct, one thing I love most about Zack is his beautiful eyes!

I LOVE HIS EYE’S

I Love his eyelashes as they stand out against his dark eye! He sure got dirty today rolling in the arena, silly boy. Luckily, the wet dirt dried enough for me to groom him and as much as he probably wanted to keep all his dirt I managed to get it all off and he was so soft afterwards. His grey coat is a bit stained from the dirt, but that’s okay. Every winter I clip him as his coat is very long and if I work him he sweats too much and does not dry well. And the sweat is sticky and it is just hard to take care of him with his winter coat. So instead of a hunter clip, I do what is called a trace clip and I shave the hair in all the areas that sweat first and I leave the top hair all along his back and neck so he stays plenty warm in our not very cold climate in Southern California. Here is a photo after I trace clipped him this last Wednesday. I had to give him a bath after the clipping to clean off any blade wash or oils left on his coat from the clippers. So he is still wet on the top-line in the photo

You can see where I clipped him all along the side which includes under his neck and his under belly. It is the same on his other side and he will stay cool when worked or if it is a hot day!

I like doing a trace clip as it only takes me about an hour where if I clip his whole body its a 2 hour job and I am more sore the next day. I use big sheep sheering type clippers that we call body clippers and they are pretty heavy, and with the vibration from the motor my fingers and hands are all tingly when I am done with this job. It is also a very messy job with all the hair going everywhere!! I think I itch just as much as he does when I am all done! 😀

Miss Chloe has beautiful eye’s too! Look at those eyelashes, she just brings me so much pleasure and joy. I feel truly blessed to have two beautiful horses, and believe me I don’t take it for granted and I appreciate having them each and every day. ❤

If I had a favorite color for horses I would say it is a roan. They are the most unusual color and Chloe is a bay roan which is a roan with bay points.  You can see the bay (brown) color in her head and she has a lot of brown running through her grey speckled coat and she has black socks with a black main and tail. She gets darker with her winter coat and more silver lighter with her spring coat. I think someday I’d like to own more roan horses! Someday!!

I’ve enjoyed sharing my musing of horse colors and horse photography up close and personal.  I am looking forward to riding Zack more often now that he is clipped so he can get some much needed exercise and I plan on riding him in the arena which will help get me in shape as well. When I ride him English I work on the posting trot and I even canter a bit too. This helps me build my core strength which I am out of shape so we both will benefit with the exercise, I can’t wait!! I have been riding Miss Chloe out on trail as often as I can so she gets plenty of exercise too. I’m thankful to be riding and thank you for visiting and reading my blog. I hope you enjoyed my up close horse photos, I sure had  fun sharing!  ❤ ❤ ❤

Fun with Family!

Arriving in Lompoc on Thanksgiving day and the moon is full. We enjoyed a Thanksgiving meal I prepared earlier with all the fixings at home, always too much food but we love the leftovers. This was the smallest gathering ever for us on this day, so a first and a first for me traveling in the evening on Thanksgiving day. What a good day to travel in the evening, roads were clear and it only took us 3 hours total, AMAZING!

The table as small as it can be for just the four of us, a small gathering with a big feast!

I was not a good photographer on this day, but my kitty was so cute sitting on the chair near the table while we ate! I could not resist this photo or two. ❤️

We got up this morning and my daughter is such a great cook with her especially loving baking. She made us homemade chocolate donuts, I helped and made the chocolate frosting. Yummy! And then she made waffles, cinnamon waffles that were delicious. Nothing like a good cup of coffee to go with these delights.

Then off to town for lunch at Alfie’s, a fish and chips place here in Lompoc, so good! 😀 Then we went to Linea’s work at Vandenberg AFB. I was able to take a few photos, some we were messing around with the selfie modes on my phone, haha! FUN!

The front of her building and walking out I loved this big tree! Makes for a pretty photo.

Our silly selfie’s, with James arms behind my head, he’s being silly but we all were! Haha!

Here’s another photo in an old room in the building.

We also went to the BX exchange and bought a few things. Linea really wanted a new coffee maker which she found there on sale. I bought some new shoes and this all may be really boring but that was the extent of our Black Friday shopping! Lol – we were worried about the crowds and so we did not venture into any other stores.

I love writing this blog, a way to share my thoughts and feelings and it’s turning out to be a great way to share with my friends and family. I wasn’t sure what this would be like, how well it would be received and if anyone even would care to read. I would like to say I’ve been over joyed with the friendliness I’ve found, the new friends I’ve made and how much everyone enjoys my writings. I look forward to not only reading other’s posts but to then be able to write mine. I found this to be a gift, and for those of you taking the time to read, I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

As I’m writing this I think often of connections as I’ve written often that my family is spread over 6 states now, and I’m thankful for technology as it helps us stay connected. You see my sister’s and one brother (there is 6 of us) have a group text we started some time ago and we keep this text going as we share events or just saying Hi. I’m so thankful and grateful for this connection.

As we pulled out of our driveway to make our way to Lompoc on Thanksgiving evening I looked up at the sky and saw a full moon! The first thing I thought of was my family, all members big and small and how each and everyone of them could look up at the sky and see the same moon.

So I texted my sister’s and brother in the group text “Beautifull full moon tonight, I wish I could take a photo, but we can all see it unless you’ve got clouds” and my sister sent me this photo –

Colorado moon!

And she sent this one a bit later as the moon rose higher in the sky getting even brighter! That just melts my heart, and the feeling of being connected keeps me strong and fills my soul. To be a thousand miles away and in an instant share a photo of the same thing you are looking at just amazes me. We take for granted these luxuries, so I’m thankful we can stay so connected.

Love you everyone! And I’m hoping all a very happy holiday weekend! ❤️

Hanging out with my Horses!

20181112_121236.jpg

This is Miss Chloe looking for a treat! She is such a sweetheart. ❤

I am enjoying my morning with these fine animals. My horses desperately need exercise but we have had more windy days in the last 2 weeks than not which makes it difficult to get them out and moving. I usually take them out on the trail which is fun for us both and less boring than just riding around in a circle in the arena! And of course it is great fun to ride with a partner when we can, having so much fun talking and riding on the trails. But it can be dangerous riding on these windy days for many reasons. Not only is there flying debris, the horses can spook at any number of things and we ride on trails that go along the streets so we don’t want to end up in the street from a spook. So we wait until the wind subsides, one more day and hopefully the wind will stay away for a long while.  Fingers crossed!

I really like this photo of Zack. I was having fun taking photos today. I tried some straight on shots I will share too that I am not sure if I like as much as these side shots.

I worked them loose and I usually make them trot and sometimes canter. With the wind they usually do not use the whole arena staying at one end in a smaller circle. I also have my girlfriends horse loose with mine, her name is Gracie. I had them exercising for so long that they ended up just walking and as they were walking they ended up walking in a circle and it reminded me of a merry-go-round, silly ponies. But they really need to move as they all have arthritis or stiffness of some sort. So we were out there walking and walking and me playing photographer! Haha, I try. I thought I would try some straight on shots and I will just group the photos together. I think when I look at them it looks like one eye is not open or their eyes are closed, I can’t decide.  😀 😀 😀

Miss Chloe, Gracie and Zack face front! I think this is goofy and FUN!

I had fun today trying different angles! Can you tell I was bored? HAHA! it is so windy you can’t even hardly groom them. I did a little, but there really isn’t much to do other than making them go around in a circle in the arena. My stalls I usually groom with the rake or pitchfork but all my shavings are blowing away and I don’t want to touch what I have left. Believe it or not there are still some left in my stalls. BUT a lot of shavings are blowing away and are out in the aisle way or further. I’ll just buy more when the wind stops, if it stops, it will stop, eventually. I also want to share my LOVE of these ponies with a photo of my granddaughter who came for a quick visit this last weekend. They had business to attend to, her mom and dad and then they had to return to Arizona. Of course I took Alice to the stables for a quick ride on the ponies. Here she is on Chloe and Zack! Her and I definitely share the love, we are HORSE CRAZY! ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

She is SO BEAUTIFUL! But then I am biased, my granddaughter on Chloe! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!

How can this not make you SMILE! Adorable, I think I need to print and frame these! ❤

I so enjoyed sharing my horses with you all today and I hope you enjoyed my photos. I had so much fun taking them and I am feeling warm, happy and blessed. I am thankful for everything we have and definitely appreciate this fun-filled life of mine.

Grateful, humbled, loving life –

Weekend Coffee Share -Training

20170217_110642.jpg

What a long week it has been and am I glad it is finally the weekend and I can enjoy a nice cup of coffee. How was your week? Mine was very busy and it was a week for training which I attended for my job learning a new instrument my company bought to replace old instruments that will be decommissioned and removed to be sold. The company that we purchased these old instruments from do not support them any more so we bought the newer model which is its replacement. It is basically the same instrument, just newer technology and more importantly updated software. It’s the software that is really different but user-friendly and now that I attended training we will start to use this new instrument at work. It is all a good thing, it is fun to learn new and updated instrumentation, but the training schedule was hard because it is not the hours I normally work!.

20181107_074457.jpg

I took this photo one of the mornings I got to training with the sun trying to peek through the coastal clouds. You would think it would be great to be on a day shift schedule and I can tell you that I actually hated it, I know a strong word but I really did hate it! I work night shift and although it was nice to sleep at night, it’s not like I could sleep into the morning hours. I was up at 4am to get ready for training, showering, eating my breakfast to get on the road by 6am to drive 25 miles in morning traffic. That is why I say I hate day shift – the morning TRAFFIC! IT TOTALLY SUCKS and it took me almost 2 hours to drive 25 miles every morning to arrive by 8am. Where I live there is just too many people. There was never a morning where there were no accidents on the freeways as I looked at the map on my phone! I really feel so very, very sorry for everyone who has to deal with morning and evening traffic as I had to deal with that too. I shouldn’t complain because I only had to deal with it for 4 days, but I MISSED MY HORSES SO MUCH! I went and visited them in the evenings and my best friend took care of my horses during the day for me so I just checked on them and groomed them in the evenings. This was a very long week for me and here is a photo of my evenings this last week, the stables where I board! ❤

20181107_172132.jpg

I hope you are enjoying your weekend! I have worked night shift for the last 35 years with a break from night shift here and there but believe it or not I actually prefer nights! I have all day to see my horses and I have worked it out that I sleep from around 3-4pm into the evening until 11pm or so and I get a healthy dose of sleep and then when I get up and eat my breakfast I head to work on nearly empty freeways with NO TRAFFIC! ❤

I am so happy I am back to my schedule, I can’t wait to get back into the swing of things with my horses and work. I am really enjoying my coffee this morning, a relaxing day ahead and am thankful this week is behind me, finally! I hope you do not have to sit in too much traffic, or do not have trouble commuting to and from work. Maybe you work from home? that would be awesome, never have done that before. I am okay driving to work I just know it is better to work either swing shift or night shift at least while I live here in Southern California. Thank you for joining me for coffee, I hope yours tastes as good as mine!  😀

Happy the week is over!
