I had a great week traveling to Las Cruces, New Mexico where my daughter and her husband were living and are on the move to California. We are so excited as they will be much closer to us and they are now looking for a home to rent about 4 hours away in Santa Maria, California which isn’t exactly down the street but the closest she’s ever been since being in the military. We are all so very excited to have her closer to home!
The trip was a lot of fun and we got to stop and buy souvenir’s while on the road. We had one little hiccup with her husband’s car. One of the back tires the rubber peeled away in one spot, it didn’t go flat but he had to stop and put on the spare tire. We were 10 miles from a very small town in Wilcox, Arizona. We should be thankful we were close to something when this occurred. We went to a mechanic who did not sell tires who then told us to go down the road a few miles and we found a Chevron station. They didn’t have a very large selection of tires but can you believe it? They had his exact size and they only had 2 tires in that size, perfect to replace the 2 back tires! He is one lucky duck!
Then we were back on the road again. We stopped and spent the night in Phoenix and then finished up the road trip the next day to California. We actually had weather! It was really cloudy and even rained for a while. It should be expected since it’s November, but we don’t get a lot of storms out west, especially the south-west heading into California.
We wanted to try to take a detour while on our trip to sightsee a bit if possible. We were planning on driving into Tuscon, Arizona and maybe go hiking or hike along a trail just something to get out of the car and stretch our legs. But the tire problem really put a dent in our time on that day, so next day we decided to go to Joshua Tree National Park.
We drove in and found the visitors center and my daughter has a National Parks book so I bought her a stamp and then she stamped her book as well with stamps they provide. I have been looking for a nice hiking hat. I can wear it to the stables as well so I purchased the hat I am wearing below in the photo. It was fun to learn about Joshua Tree and what I learned is this is a place to come in the evenings and camp or stay late to see the stars. We couldn’t believe what you can see in the photos we saw for sale. The milky way is so bright I had no idea! Someday I want to go there at night, something I’ll add to my bucket list! We walked this little trail loop it was really short, but we got our tiny hike. 😀
My daughter and her husband are now up in Santa Maria house hunting. They will be renting or leasing a house for the next 3 years as she is now stationed at Vandenberg Air Force base. She is really excited to be at her next assignment and once they choose a house it will be great fun being able to visit her on a more regular schedule. I’m hoping we will be able to visit at least once a month, trading off going from one place to the other – it will make for some adventures I’m sure! It was so great to be off for this last week, a nice relaxing vacation is good for the soul. ❤
